Lassen Peak had
fumed fitfully for
a year. In mid May,
1915, sputtering,
white hot lava
spilled out of
Summit Crater.
Then, on May 22,
1915, the last great
eruption sent an
awesome cloud of
steam and dust
boiling 5 miles into
this sky.
